Why Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Praising "Super Trooper" Princess Anne

Princess Anne Leaves Hospital After Undergoing Care for Head Injury

Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating Princess Anne's return.

After the Princess Royal—the younger sister of King Charles III—embarked on her first official engagement following her release from the hospital late last month, the Prince and Princess of Wales expressed their admiration on social media.

"Super trooper!" the couple wrote in a July 13 post on X, formerly Twitter. "So great to see you back so soon! W & C x"

The previous day, Anne visited the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Championships at Hartpury University and Hartpury College—an organization she's served as president of since 1985—where she met with winners and handed out awards. The July 12 engagement marked the beginning of what the royal family described on social media as Anne's "gradual return" to her public duties.

Days after Anne rode on horseback alongside Prince William and her youngest brother Prince Edward during the Trooping of the Colour procession, the 73-year-old was hospitalized with minor injuries and a concussion sustained during an incident at her Gloucestershire estate.

"Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery," Buckingham Palace said in a June 25 statement. "The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery."

In the wake of her hospitalization, several of Anne's engagements were postponed or canceled, including her attendance at a banquet honoring Japanese Emperor Naruhito and a trip abroad to Canada.

After a five-night stay in the hospital, Anne—whom NBC News confirmed had been suffering from memory loss as a result of the accident thought to have been caused by a horse—returned home to continue her recovery.

“I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the team at Southmead Hospital,” Anne’s husband, Tim Laurence, told Reuters June 28. “For their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay.”

As Princess Anne resumes her busy life as a working royal, keep reading to see more updates from royal families around the world.
